Aries is the first zodiac sign of the astrological year. Initiating Rebirth & New Beginnings. It coincides with the beginning of Spring, usually landing on or around the Spring Equinox, also known as Ostara. It’s a time where the Earth heralds in the next cycle, where nature is waking up once again and we all have the chance to start anew.

🐏 Mythology 🐏

The Babylonians originally identified Aries in the sky as a constellation of an agrarian worker or a farmhand. It was later shifted to The Ram in late Babylonian times to be associated with the Mesopotamian deity Dumuzid, also known as the Shepherd.

A pair of Rams were excavated from the Royal Cemetery of Ur (modern day Iraq) in the Great Death Pit. Dated from 2600–2400 BC - Mesopotamia. In Mesopotamian mythology & Babylonian culture, Rams were also connected to the Spring Equinox - creation and vitality - defeating chaos and reestablishing order.

Aries is the latin word for Ram and Rams as a symbol hold significance with so many cultures around the world.

  • In Hellenistic Astrology, Chrysomallos was a Winged Ram with a Golden Fleece, rescued 2 children Phrixus & Helle from a certain demise. This Golden Fleeced Ram was then sacrificed to Zeus as an offering and placed into the sky and became the constellation Aries.

  • Aries is affiliated with Ares, the son of Zeus & Hera and one of the Twelve Olympians. Ares was the Greek God of War & Guardian of Courage. The zodiac Aries was also connected to Mars, the Roman God of War, which reinforces the cosmic connection of Aries' ruling planet in the solar system, the planet Mars.’

  • In West African traditions there are a few deities or Orishas that connect with the Ram. Among the Ibo people of Southern Nigeria, ceremonies were held honoring Ebune or the Ram, recognizing the return of the rain, after the winter season. Ikanga, a Nigerian Ibo figure associated with Ebune, symbolizes strength and humility. The Ebune will fight fiercely against an adversary, but it also submits humbly to slaughter, emphasizing that even the strong need to be humble.

  • In Yoruba culture, Shango an Orisha associated with thunder, lightning and storms is often represented as a Ram, another harbinger of the Spring season that is to come through resilience and virility.

  • In Celtic mythology, the Ram is connected to fertility & rebirth. Affiliated with the Celtic deity Cernunnos and the ram-headed serpent, deepening the link to strength, creative powers & devotion.

  • Zapotec indigenous people of Mexico believed that every person had a spirit guide or ‘tona’. The Ram was an significant guide connected to endurance & perseverance, beautifully depicted as ram alebrije, colorful & fantastical folk art sculptures.

  • In Egyptian Mythology, Rams were associated with fertility, protection and rebirth. Rams connected with a handful Egyptian Deities especially -Khnum, Creator God and Amun-Ra, the Sun God of Strength & Power. Many Egyptian Kings were buried with Ram sculptures surrounding them. Rams were integrated within the culture, a part of ‘sacred fashion’ seen represented in jewelry, amulets, pendants, and the like.

  • In Germanic cultures like the Vikings, Ram horns were used to drink out of in celebration and ceremonies, aka a drinking horn.

  • Since Rams were associated with powerful divinities & heroic figures, they were not only connected to masculinity but also linked with powerful female divinity too, including Aphrodite, Goddess of Love.

The Ram as an animal has these huge, magnificent horns that sprout from their head and spiral around. Rams are a potent symbol for many because of their legendary strength - determined & courageous charging head first. They are considered leaders & protectors of their flock.

There is this beautiful interweaving force of Aries and what the Ram symbolizes, that carries an intense weight of power & strength while also harnessing the magic rebirth & fertility. This spectrum of signatures are fruitful energies for the beginning of Spring.

📍Astronomy📍

The 6 star names are: Bharani (41 Arietis), Botein (Delta Arietis), Hamal (Alpha Arietis), Lilii Borea (39 Arietis), Mesarthim (Gamma2 Arietis), and Sheratan (Beta Arietis A). The constellation is home to several notable deep sky objects like the Fiddlehead Galaxy and the dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 1156.

The best time to see the Aries Constellation in the northern hemisphere is during the month of December, when it appears higher above the horizon sign around 9PM. There’s a variety of different meteor showers that traverse the Aries Constellation, including The Arietids Meteor Shower which originates in Aries and runs from late May to early July. For navigation Aries has three prominent stars forming an asterism (an observed pattern or grouping of stars in the sky).

💥 Aries Magic💥

Please note: Each time we discuss these zodiac signs, I am speaking to the potency & power of the zodiac itself, in this case the energetic signature of Aries. I am not speaking about an ‘Aries person’ but more so the type of energy that Aries can harness and you can tap into. ¿Comprende? If you want to look up where Aries is in your chart - click here.

Aries Season ♈︎

2025 Dates: March 20th - April 18th
Element: Fire
Quality: Cardinal
Ruling Planet: Mars
Governing Body Parts: Head & Face
Natural House: 1st House “ I AM”
Dominant Material: Iron
Tarot Association: IV. The Emperor

🔥 In Astrology, Aries is considered a Cardinal Fire sign.
Each cardinal sign in the zodiac initiates a new season for us on Earth and for Aries that is the Spring. The power of Aries’ fire lies in that initial spark, that strike of the match, that burst of inspiration, that igniting heat of desire, that quick gut reaction when we choose YES! or NO! Aries is full of fiery magic that is the catalyst to start. With determination & with enthusiasm. Inspired without a plan but inspired all the same because it’s backed with drive & action.

🌶️ Aries is the 1st zodiac sign of the astrological year.
This means Aries is considered the ‘baby’ of the zodiac or ‘the youngest’ sign (with Pisces the 12th sign being the oldest). There can be some naivety to Aries energy which can look a lot like ‘act first, think later’ but that is the beauty of this sign. It calls in decisive action & courageous strides and that can actually get things going instead of being stuck in the hesitancy.

🩸 The Aries intensity is amplified with its ruling planet Mars.
Mars is the planet of drive, will, action, passion, desire, aggression, and high energy. Mars holds conflict & tension. With this being Aries’ ruling planet, we start to gain a larger picture of Aries energy & magic. Headstrong & determined, like a Ram charging forth, Aries signatures like to handle things head on, direct & clear. While this may create discomfort and tension, it gets the job done. Literally Rams will butt heads with each other during a rut in order to attract mates! Assertiveness is apart of their love language!

🧨 All zodiac signs & their energetic signatures vary on a spectrum.
On the Aries spectrum, energy can look like being adventurous, courageous, ambitious and passionate. However the spirit of Aries can also be impulsive, confrontational, stubborn and inconsiderate. Healthy confidence & being clear is a beautiful quality of Aries that we can all lean into but it’s important to be aware of our own aggressive nature and one sided thinking. Sometimes this means Aries energy can be felt as varied destruction in order to release out & away, to then call in order and renewal magic that’s needed.

👹 Each zodiac sign rules a part of the body.
Aries rules the head & face, which makes a lot of sense when we look at the Natural House that Aries reigns over too - the 1st House. The 1st House governs our ego, our identity, our appearance or projected image, our interface with the world - the house of our self expression. “I AM” is the 1st House with Aries. The ego is seen as a protection mechanism, and Aries is a sign that does want to protect. Whether it’s protecting our boundaries, protecting our goals, or our loved ones, Aries is a defender of that it believes in.

☎️ Aries harnesses leadership energy, which we can see exemplified in its tarot correspondence - IV. The Emperor Card
Taking up space, standing within our own sovereignty & authority is potent Emperor Aries wisdom. Discovering new ways of living, being a pioneer into uncharted territory, leading or initiating new chapters - all fall within this type of Aries Fire, Emperor frequency. Need to kick off a project? Call an Aries! Facing a fear or trying to vanquish a self doubt - channel that Aries magic! The material that corresponds to Aries is Iron. The metaphysical energies of Iron continue to reinforce Aries vibrancy - it’s a metal of protection, courage, grounding and fortitude.

We can start to really feel into the magic of Aries as we cross the threshold into Spring.

Aries is an explosion of creative energy. We need the Aries fire to reawaken Earth’s beautiful nature and usher in new growth. With Spring, we are now able to unfurl ourselves, come out of our hibernation and stretch our energy up towards the warming Sun. Rise and shine my Beloved’s, Spring is here, and Aries Season is asking us to hold onto our inner trust with strength & determination to help get things moving.

❤️‍🔥 Channeled Teachings of this Aries Season ❤️‍🔥

Soooooo with all the above being said, this Aries Season of 2025 is quite unique. Over the course of the zodiacal season - we have 2 key planets in retrograde - Venus & Mercury, Neptune will shift into Aries on March 30th and of course, we are finding ourselves smack dab in the middle of Eclipse Season, which has its own energetic agenda.

The usual power of Aries Season is intense on its own, so mixed with everything else going on - cosmically & collectively (on literally every single level) - it can feel like A LOT +A LOT! Ahhh Aries! We need you but we don’t need more extreme energy added into this chaotic dumpster fire!

It’s a paradox moment:

- A lot of us are acutely susceptible to falling into a state of overwhelm or anxiety right now, while others may need a kick in the butt to be reinvigorated again.

- Some of us need to slow roll into the ‘gung-ho’ vibe of Spring, while others can’t wait to shift out of Winter.

- Maybe some parts of us need more time, space & rest, while other parts of us may be relieved to get a boost of energy and shake off the stagnant.

- Or maybe you’re just ready. Ready for Aries, ready to call in inspiration, ready to harness your power, ready to make decisions, ready to take action!

All of it can be true! We are Complex Creatures! This is not a problem. I am calling it into awareness so you can have the opportunity to take a moment and tune into where your energetics lie at the beginning of Spring.

The retrogrades are still asking us to reflect, review & realign. To be intentional and stay true to the pace that is best for us during this time.

  • The planet Venus is retrograde till 4/12 . Venus is our planet of Love, Values, Resources, Being in Relationship & Connection, Beauty & Art.

  • The planet Mercury is in retrograde till 4/7. Mercury is our planet of Communication, Intellect, our way of Thinking, Manifestation, how we handle Technology, our Day to Day Affairs.

Can you take the time to identify & call out (Mercury) to your personal desires (Venus), all the while making sure they are aligned with your intimate goals to set into action (Aries)?

Eclipse Season is always asking us to surrender. Whenever we are in Eclipse Season - this is when we lay down our magic wand, and allow the unseen forces outside of us to do the work. They are clearing, they are alchemizing, they are turning the wheel, they are restoring. We shouldn’t really do too much during this time.

On the flip side of Eclipse Season though, there is a lot of Aries energy at play on a variety of different celestial levels right now. We know that with Aries we initiate, we ignite, we start new! So how do we balance both of these opposing forces (surrender & action) in a way that be harmonizing for us?

We focus on our power. Our agency. We stay grounded in the present moment and move with our intuition. We listen, we pay attention. We stay open to receive inspiration. And we connect with our breath.

I invite you to listen to our first meditation of the Sacred Saturdaze Outpost Zodiac Meditation 2025 Series - Aries Season: Discover Your Personal Power.
As Above, So Below, As Within, So Without, As the Universe, So the Soul,
So mote it be.

Blessings to you & yours!
